Ms. Sears is excited to offer a Jazz Workshop at Kinawa this spring! This jazz workshop will be for students currently enrolled in a 6th grade music class who want to explore and learn about the music style of jazz. Throughout the workshop, we will focus on the fundamentals of jazz music, including learning how to improvise and how to play swing music individually and as a group. This workshop meets for 4 weeks in April. The goal of this workshop is to give students an introduction to the world of jazz music, which is unlike anything they have experienced so far in school music classes. This workshop is designed for: any 6th grade band students, any 6th grade orchestra students who play string bass, and any 6th grade choir and orchestra students who take piano lessons. Please see the flyer for more details.  Register below under Music Camps.

SUZUKI MUSIC PROGRAM
Spring Term - 8 Weeks
March 31 - May 23, 2025

The Suzuki Program offers string instrument instruction using the philosophy and method of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki.  The Suzuki program has been part of Okemos Community Education for over 50 years.  Students as young as three learn to play the violin, viola, or cello and can continue their studies through high school.  Students can begin at any age.  The program consists of a weekly private lesson and a weekly group class.  Solo recitals and group concerts are also a part of the program.  Lessons are taught by highly trained teachers after school at Chippewa Middle School.  Chamber music classes (string trio and quartet) are also available for older students.
